Prepare for Memorial weekend
Memorial weekend is the time for family get-togethers, graduation parties and cookouts! That brings a lot of traffic to your backyard. There are some things you should make sure are ready before everyone shows up for the hot-dogs and hamburgers.
Clean Your Gutters
Don’t be embarrassed by having your gutters overflowing with debris from winter and pollen from spring. If you don’t have enough time to think about that give us a call and we’ll be happy to help you get your gutters looking great.
Tame That Lawn
Mow your grass and prune the shrubs and bushes. That way no one feels like they are on a safari trip walking through your tall grass and looking over your unruly brushes.
Clean Your Grill
A clean grill is not only nice to look at but it also looks better when you are cooking people’s food on a clean grill instead of a grill with food burnt on the cooking grid from last year. A stiff wire brush and warm soapy water will help you take care of this. It’s also good if the grid is a bit on the warm side.
Wipe Down Outdoor Furniture
Outdoor furniture can get pretty dirty from being left outside during all seasons. Give them a nice wipe down with warm soapy water and sure that the cushions are nice and dry and not moldy and stinky. It’s also probably a good idea to test out the furniture especially if it’s older to make sure that it can handle someone sitting on it.
Wash Walkway And Driveway
Wash all the dirt and other messes off of your driveway leaving it looking great and clean for guests when they arrive.
Clean Your Pool (if you have one)
If you have a pool make sure that you clean it out, sweep out all of the dead bugs, leaves, and dirt that has found its way into your pool these past couple of weeks. Make sure that your pool is also algae-free. Also having plenty of towels and sunscreen will be a nice gesture for guest who forgot something or so they won’t have to pack so much when they stop by.
Prepare For Pests
We don’t mean the Dennis The Menaces of your neighborhood. We mean the true pests to any backyard cookout…Mosquito’s. There are bug sprays that you can spray on lawn to keep them away but you could use insect-repellent candles and having a few extra bottles of bug spray is nice too. As for ants who want to run away with your food and where you are eating by keeping your food covered, keeping your garbage can covered and keeping the food table away from hedges and trees.
Light It Up
Add some lights for when it starts to get dark. This will allow people to not rush off and stay to visit. Adding some string lights around the sitting area will be the perfect lighting for conversations. Also make sure you have some lighting around your walkways so no one twists an ankle. There are some great tutorials on mason jar lights, you could use it with either candles or artificial candles.
Always Prepare For The Worse
Always have a backup plan in case it rains on the day of your party. In Lynchburg it’s suppose to be pretty nice this weekend so most get together’s should be fine, but this could help even with summer BBQ’s. Have your garage or car port or porch cleared off so you can improvise. If you take it inside then make sure that people have a place to put their muddy shoes and coats.
Don’t Forget To Decorate A Little
Some people like a lot of decoration and some people don’t. If you’re not sure about how to decorate for an outdoor event there are millions of ideas on Pinterest. We have a whole board dedicated to Outdoor Events. You might be inspired.
