Prepare Your Yard For A 4th Of July Party!

Post Image

The key to a successful 4th of July party is location, and how comfortable your guests are. It doesn’t take a whole lot of work to get your yard in perfect 4th party zone but there are some important steps to getting it ready. Two Days Before 4th of July Party:   Clean Those Gutters It’s not technically the season for this, but you know some of you still haven’t done it – when green things are shooting up from your gutters you really shouldn’t put it off anymore! Tidy Up Garden And Lawn Pull weeds and trim up bushes.  Remove all lawn ornaments that might cause guests to trip or are in the way.  Also if you have pets presents, picking them up before you mow might be a good idea so no one’s shoes get ruined. Straighten Up House Especially The Kitchen And Bathroom The bathroom is  the most important room to make sure that it is stocked and clean for guests to use. The Day Before: Mow the Lawn Surprisingly enough it will be much more comfortable for your guests and for cleaning up after the party. Scrub Patio Furniture Make sure all furniture is clean, free of mildew stains, and looking great for your party. Check Your Grill Make sure your grill has plenty of propane, charcoal and that it works! Nothing can ruin a party more than not having a functional grill to enjoy your hamburgers and hot dogs on! A Few Hours Before: Place Chairs And Tables In Inviting Clusters This allows for your guest to have a great seating atmosphere and they will be more likely to stay longer if they are less uncomfortable. Place Tables For Food   Make sure to place your tables on a surface that is flat and stable enough that it will not tip or fall back.  That could be disastrous. Also this would be a great time to set up the different station for people to get their napkins, cups, utensils, etc. Bug Repellent Candles This is a must. Nothing kills a party more than bugs “bugging” your guests.  It might be smart to have a bug repellent station where you have a couple extra bottles of bug spray and invest in some candles like Off Lanterns. The less your guests are being pestered the happier and better it will be.   If you follow these few steps you will have less to worry about and more fun which is what having a 4th of July party is all about! Summer Maintenance Tips For Downspouts & Gutters

Post Image

Summer can bring all kinds of problems to your gutters that we wouldn’t think possible to effect them. With all of the thunderstorms that can bring high winds and hail to the sweltering heat that can cause fires and debris to fall on your roof, it’s another time that having clean gutters can be a big help. There are a few summer maintenance tips that we have to keep your gutters and downspouts happy all summer long.    Wet Summer When the summer storms come (although they seem a little early this year) damages can happen from heavy winds and rain.  It can cause other debris and materials to hit your gutters which can dent them, and start a leak or break your gutters.  This is a reason it is important to check your gutters after a large thunderstorm.  This prevents further damage from occurring and keeps the rest of your home safe from pricey repairs. A good rule of thumb when choosing gutters for your home is to choose a gutter that can handle the average rainfall for your area. ( Lynchburg, VA average amount here ) If the amount of rainfall per hour is 1″: 5″ 1/2 Round holds 2500 sq.ft. 6″ 1/2 Round holds 3840 sq.ft. 5″ K-Style holds 5520 sq.ft. 6″ K-Style holds 7960 sq.ft. source Dry Summer When the summer gets hot and dry this can cause for a whole new list of problems to arise. Trees start to prune themselves when the weather becomes too hot and dry.  This happens when the weather is above average and the trees are not getting enough water and becoming weak. You know this when they prematurely start to loose leaves and pine needles. This problem can lead to a far worse problem which is debris fire.  When the weather gets really hot and this can cause debris fires to start up.  This is far more dangerous during those hot, dry summer months. So the summer time is not a time to slack on cleaning your gutters and if you find that this is annoying and want to keep it down to two cleanings a year, we suggest you install a gutter guards system to keep your gutters clean and free from debris.   For a free estimate on gutter cleaning, repairs or adding gutter guards, call us today! Gutter Guard Issues

Post Image

Gutter Guard Issues Gutter guards are a great to cut down the amount of debris that enters and clogs your gutters. There are a few times that gutter guard issues will arise. It all depends on the slope of your roof. The slope of your roof can determine the amount of airflow or speed of the water that naturally removes debris down your roof to your gutters or gutter guards, especially when it is heavier material such as leaves, twigs, and etc. Low Pitch Roof A low pitch roof collects debris because of lack of slope to wash or blow it off.  It also allows debris to sit on your roof for a longer amount of time. The flatter the roof the more likely its going to sit and this also means it can build up behind the gutter guard.  Mastershield Gutter Guards do offer a way to be installed that can be angled like the roof, leaving a smoother area for debris to shed from the roof. If you are not sure if your roof is a low pitch please view image below.   Roof Valley When your roof has valleys, airflow is restricted.  This causes debris to sit on the gutter guards and valleys causing water to overflow near the areas of the valleys. Roof valleys should be cleaned on a regular basis (like your gutters, we recommend twice a year unless you have a lot of trees around your home) especially in the spring when the debris is smaller, dense and wetter from the spring showers.   Tall Wall  A tall wall issue happens when a gutter that ends near a wall extension clogs from debris building up against wall.  Tall wall is when, for example, a 1 story garage is attached to the side of a 2 story home. There are ways to prevent clogs from happening such as monitoring your roof on a regular basis, and noting where the debris collects.  So if you clean your gutters yourself you can be sure to hit those spots.  If your roof is too steep or high for your ladder to reach please call a professional to take care of it for you.   Paying attention to your roof and gutters is vital for home health.  It can allow for these prices pieces of your home to last a full life. Protect what’s truly important on the inside. If you would like to learn about the different styles of gutter guards we offer. Please visit our gutter guard page. Also remember that is your roof is very steep or high, please call a professional. Never put yourself in an uncomfortable and dangerous situation.
