Water Over Gutters – Clogged Gutters And Downspout

Post Image

Clogged Gutters And Downspout With all of these April showers you may be finding yourself with water running over your gutters.  This could be a simple problem.  Wrong pitch or a bigger problem such as clogged gutters or downspouts.  We are going to explain some of the different problems that could be causing water to run over your gutters and see what the best fix it solution can be! The pitch is wrong The pitch of your gutters is where they are angled. So the water will go to the downspouts and not just stand in your gutters. It also allows water to spill (if rain is so heavy) over to the ground instead of hitting the eaves then into the home.  It can be hard to determine what pitch is best for every home so it might be necessary for your installers to adjust it more than once.  If we install your gutters we do not charge an extra fee for adjusting the pitch of them. Clogged Gutters It is very important to clean your gutters at least twice a year. If you do not do this it will cause your gutters to clog which will cause them to overflow when it rains.  This can lead to potentially bad damages on your home. Eventually rip the gutters from your home. If you live in an area where there are a lot of trees it would be best to invest in gutter guards. You Should only have to clean your gutters twice a year and keep them from getting clogged. Gutter Guards There is one problem that can happen with heavy rain and gutter guards.  If it rains heavy enough water will run over them. The More You Know: K Style Gutters

Post Image

One of the most common types of gutters on many homes today is the k style gutters.  There are a few different sizes when it comes to k style that range from 4″-8″.  Below is a chart displaying the various measurements of the k style gutters.   K Style Gutters are the most popular style of gutter on the market today. The design and shape of this gutter creates the strongest and most effective system to capture potentially damaging water flow. The term K style gutters is derived from the profile of this type of guttering when viewed from the side. The outer shape of the gutter is supposed to (very vaguely) represent the letter K, as opposed to a perfectly rounded, half-circle-shaped gutter. In other words, the outer edge consists of a short, straight line from the bottom of the gutter, then two opposing curves, followed by another short straight line. These gutters are also known as ogee gutters (interestingly, the word “ogee” means “double curve,” which looks more like the letter S.) K-gutters are most often made with aluminum. Though it is not uncommon to find materials such as vinyl, copper, and galvanized steel, which make up these products.  K-gutters will hold more water than a rounded gutter with an equivalent diameter. Also, because of their unique shape, K-gutters are less likely to bend or protrude when impacted by force, which makes them stronger, even when lighter materials are used to produce them. However, K-gutters have more sharp edges on which debris can catch or accumulate, and they are also harder to clean than their rounded counterparts. There’s another reason why K-style gutters are the most widely used gutters in America. That’s because when you look at K-gutters on a house or structure, they somewhat resemble the stylish crown molding that is found on interior ceilings. Therefore, builders tend to select K-gutters because their profiles blend better with modern architectural trends. Because of their popularity, most gutter manufacturers have standardized the K-style profile in their gutter-making machines. Many contractors have portable gutter-making machines. This enables them to feed in aluminum sheets to be fashioned into seamless K-gutters of a predetermined length. On the other hand, K-gutters are commonly found in 10-foot sections in hardware and home improvement stores. This is for the do-it-yourselfer who want to purchase their own materials. The only problem with buying them in sections is that there is more of a chance for them to leak.  So it is always best to get seamless. Post Image

Preventing Clogged Rain Gutters This Spring It’s April and you know what that means. Spring Showers.  It can also be a time when your gutters can clog and overflow with water. If rain gutters are clogged and don’t drain properly, they can overflow, causing water to cascade off your roof and damage the landscaping below.  This precipitation can also rot wood around windows and doors, stain siding and cause water to build up at your home’s foundation, where it may seep into your basement. There are ways to prevent this from happening and leaving you with a worry-free spring. It all comes down to one preventative action. Clean your gutters. Many people underestimate what keeping your gutters clean can do for you. When To Replace Fascia

Post Image

Fascia boards sit up under the eaves and behind the gutters on a home so they’re out of the way and often ignored or forgotten. However, besides just filling in the hole under the eaves, fascia has a couple of important roles to play. Fascia helps support the rain gutters that channel rainwater away from your foundation. Working in combination with the soffits, fascia is part of the attic ventilation system that helps keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Finally, because it does fill the hole under the eaves, fascia helps keep wandering animals such as squirrels or raccoons from climbing into your attic and making it their home. So, for all these reasons, it’s important the fascia boards on your home be in good condition. Unfortunately, because the fascia is so exposed, over time the wood will weather and could rot. It needs to be replaced. Simply painting over the damaged fascia may look like a good repair from the ground. For a proper, long lasting repair, the damaged boards should be removed and replaced. There are a few tell-tale signs of when to replace fascia on your home. Check out each board to make sure that they are still sound.  Grab a screwdriver or awl and probe at each piece. Make sure that the wood has not become spongy or crumbles under the pressure of your test. Look for peeling paint, stains, crumbling wood and loose gutters. If fascia does any of this,  it’s time to replace them.  Damage happens, such as your gutters falling off of your home.  If you are unsure contact a professional to come take a look at it.  Best to get these replaced before you get a brand new roof.
