Heavy Rain Gutter Problems

Post Image

Common Heavy Rain Gutter Problems The rain this past week has been non-stop and hopefully you gutters have been handling it like they should be.  If not give us a call and we’ll help you with any heavy rain gutter problem you may be having. Heavy rain causes a lot of gutter problems. Not always because gutters have a pre-existing problem. Gutters clog in heavy rain storms. The average amount of rainfall in October is 3.11in (in Lynchburg). You can’t control the amount of rain you receive. You can prepare yourself for the next downpour by investing in rain gutters built to handle substantial rainfall. The normal residential size is 5″. Depending on the area and the average amount of rainfall you receive a year you can use the right gutters for it. Heavy rains cause gutters to overflow by just the shear amount of rain and debris. Debris forced into your gutters in a small amount of time. Once it stops raining to check and see if any larger debris needs to be unstuck from your gutters, such as tree branches. Too few downspouts can really put stress on your gutters once it starts to rain hard and this often causes overflowing. Your local gutter professional (such as Gutters & Guards, Inc.) and they should recommend the right amount of downspouts for your home, and if you need to add one they can add it for you!  So remember to check your gutters after a heavy rainstorm For a free estimate on gutter cleaning, repairs or adding gutter guards, call us today! How Does Fall Weather Affect Your Gutters?

Post Image

How Does Fall Weather Affect Your Gutters? Your gutters work year round to keep your home from major moisture damage. If they become clogged this can lead to foundation and other water damages on your home that will cost your big! We suggest that you clean your gutters at least twice a year; once in the spring and once in the fall to prevent major clogs from forming. Here are a few tips to help you clean your gutter throghtly this fall. Beginning to clean your gutters make sure to use proper ladder safety and try not to do this alone. With gloves on clean all of the leaves, sticks, needs and seeds from gutters and place them in a trash bag to either throw away or use for composting. Don’t try to do this with a water hose because it could clog your downspouts. Next, remove all the pasty goo made up of granules from your roofing shingles that have mixed with water and dirt. You can use a gloved hand again but just a different bag. After you remove the goo it’s time to use the water hose to flush your gutters out. Look for leaks while you do this. Also check gutters for pools of water that will indicate where low spots are. The Gutters should be sloped so they drain properly. If you are unable to get them clean this fall please call a professional, such as Gutters & Guards, Inc. who will do a good cleaning before winter hits the area and clogged gutters will cause big problems.
