Painting Aluminum Gutters

Post Image

Painting Aluminum Gutters is not recommended, because it will void any paint finish warranties and can shorten the life of your gutters. If you must paint your gutters due to them being heavily rusted or older and replacing them is out of budget, here’s what you can do. Painting is simple but not easy. What you’ll need: sandpaper Paint scraper scrub brushes soap & water paint brushes metal primer/acrylic bonding oil-based primer satin/gloss oil-based enamel oil-based paint CAUTION:  Before you go to the paint store you need to note a couple of paint tips. First, you need to look for ammonia-free primers. Ammonia reacts with aluminum to create a layer of gas between the aluminum and the paint, which can create a bubbling effect. This bubbling will ruin your paint job. Start by cleaning your gutters. Remove any existing paint.  Use the sandpaper and scrubber to remove the old paint. Scrub and wash with soap and water until they are clean and then you can start with primer.  Primer can take a while to dry ( sometimes up to 48 hours).   After the primer is completely dry, paint two coats of oil-based satin/gloss enamel. 48 hour again until it’s fully dry. Now it’s time for the last coat, paint your gutters with it’s final color. (source)   Though we do not suggest painting your gutters because it is a long, time consuming job that’s results do not last as long as replacing your gutters. Pollen On Gutter Guards

Post Image

Pollen On Gutter Guards Pollen on Gutter Guards is a common spring gutter issue. In the spring and if it’s particularly dry it can build up. If you introduce sap into the mix it can stick the pollen to your gutter guards creating a mess. Pollen and buds on trees fall onto your roof and gutters, tangling and clumping together. Once wet they become sponge like and if your gutter guards lay completely flat, you will have to physically brush them off your guards. If you do not have a proper ladder or your gutters are too high up, please call a professional. Gutter cleaning professional will take care of the pollen. Make sure to call them AFTER all the pollen has fallen. This could be late May. If gutters need to be taken care of sooner than that, call a professional to avoid any issues. Gutter Maintenance Tip #38 – Trapped Water In Gutter

Post Image

Trapped Water In Gutter Trapped Water In Gutter. Have you noticed that a gutter has been trapping water? The cause could be a couple different issues. We going to explain what to look for and how to fix it. If you’re gutter is trapping water, there are a couple different issues that could be causing it. The first is a clogged gutter. We suggest that you clean out your gutters two times a year and more if you live in an area where there are a lot of trees. Leaves can cover the opening to the downspout and trap water in your gutter. So make sure to keep your gutters free to debris and if it becomes too much of a job hire a professional and install gutter guards. The second issue is your gutters being improperly pitched. We suggest that you give this one to the professionals. It may seem easy but this one is best left to the professionals. Gutters do not sit straight at a 90 degree angle. A professional can get the right angle and you won’t have to climb a ladder and balance at the same time. For a free estimate on gutter cleaning, repairs or adding gutter guards, call us today!
