Gutter Elbow Issues

Post Image

Gutter Elbow Issues Proper gutter drainage is key to keeping your home in check. Downspouts are the hardest working part on your home. They work to move all that rain water from your gutters (which are just there to catch it) out and away from your home. If the downspouts become clogged, damaged or or just not large enough it can really mess up the guttering system. The elbow that connects your gutter to your downspout is a very sensitive spot on your gutter system. If it becomes clogged, it makes a mess. If the water is too much for it to handle it can overflow. Downspouts are most sensitive because your gutters are tilted slightly to allow the debris and water to gravitate towards the downspouts. Clogs are a normal occurrence in your gutter elbows mostly because of the given space to all draining. It doesn’t take a lot of debris either. If you want to prevent clogs from occurring, think about installing a gutter guard system. This will allow for less of a change for a gutter clog. It’s not completely maintenance free or completely void of getting a clog, gutter guards will narrow down your chances.  It will give your gutter elbows a lot more room to breathe and worry about doing their job. Keep rainwater at least 6 feet away from foundation.  Prevent expensive and hard-to-fix foundation damages from occurring.   Let your gutter cleaning worries be behind you! For a free estimate on gutter cleaning, repairs or adding gutter guards, call us today! 10 Quick Tips About Your Gutters

Post Image

10 Quick Tips About Your Gutters Gutters are an important part of your home. They help gather rain water and direct it away from your home and foundation. We have 10 Quick Tips About Your Gutters and how to keep them in working order. 1. Clean and unclog your gutters A LEAST twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. This ensure that your gutters will not malfunction creating costly repairs and headaches. If you live in an area where there are more trees you may want to invest in gutter guards or clean them out more frequently! 2. Always make sure that your downspouts are unclogged and that they are carrying water out and away from your home’s foundation. 3. Seamless gutters have less seams ( the only seams are at corners) and therefore have smaller chances to leak. 4. Mold, water stains or discoloration of areas around gutters indicate a need for cleaning or repair. 5. In the winter months, it’s important to have clean gutters because clogged gutters can make ice dams form or become a bigger problem, since water is backing up. 6. If you clean your gutters yourself, make sure to use proper ladder safety! 7. Standing water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes! 8. If you neglect your gutters for too long, all the weight for the debris will cause your gutters to sag and pull away from your home. This can lead to damages if they fall from your home! 9. Seamless gutters can be made of aluminum, galvanized steel or copper. 10. After cleaning all the debris from your gutters, make sure to use a garden hose to rinse out your gutters and check for leaks in the downspouts! Do not use a power washer, this can cause damage to your gutters or other parts of the home. Another tips that we tell our customers is to never climb on a ladder if you are not completely comfortable with it. This can lead to a bad injury! Fixes For Common Gutter Problem

Post Image

Fixes For Common Gutter Problem A clogged gutter can become a homeowners worst nightmare if it’s left for too long. Overflowing water can damage your homes foundation creating expensive repairs that can all be avoided by unclogging your gutters. This is one of the most common gutter problems that a homeowner faces. We suggest that you clean your gutters at least twice a year. This will help prevent clogs from forming and leave you with a lot less stress. When your gutters become clogged it defeats the purpose of having gutters on your home and the excess weight of all the debris and water can cause them to sag and pull away from your home causing even more problems and issues. Gutters & Guards, Inc. has a long-term maintenance program that allows you to forget about your gutters and we contact you to schedule a cleaning as many times a year as your home will need ( we usually do twice but that can depend on the amount of trees around your home. More trees more cleaning and vice versa). If you are going the DIY gutter cleaning route, make sure to use proper ladder safety. Clear all the debris from your gutters, flush them with a garden hose ( without nozzle). If they’re flowing properly, your job is down. If not you may have a clog, in this we suggest you call a professional to clean your downspouts since it can be difficult to unclog them. Another way to prevent clogs is by investing in a gutter leaf guard system.  This does NOT mean you can install and forget. You will have to (no matter what) check your gutter guards and make sure that they are doing their job by keeping debris out, but they will keep clogs from forming by keeping that worse out of your gutter. Gutter Maintenance Tips #8 – Gutter Overflow

Post Image

Gutter Overflow April Showers Bring May Flowers.  Gutter overflow can cause lots of problems from foundation damage to water damages on your home. There are a few solutions on what the fix could be and depending on how your gutters are handling it during the rain. If the water is overflowing at the bottom of a valley this is not because your gutters are not working right, there is just too much water running to one central point. Add a divertor to split the water sending it both ways easing the run of water to the point. If they are running over your gutter guards, this is usually a pitch problem.  Have your local professional adjust this. If water is running behind your gutter this could mean that your gutters are loose from your fascia. Have a professional tighten these and check for fascia for rot. Gutter Maintenance Tips #6 – Rain Gutter Leak

Post Image

Rain Gutter Leak A rain gutter leak can be a real problem if it’s neglected long enough. We always advise you to pay close attention to your gutter when it rains. This will let you know if you are having a problem or not. It also prevents damage such as water damage and soil erosion from occurring. Use a china marker to mark areas where leaks are occurring, water is running over and more so when it dries you can address the problem area. If you roof it high above the groud, DO NOT CLIMB on a ladder. This is too dangerous, we suggest instead that you take a photo or video. Almost everyone has a device that allows you to capture a photo or video. You can also use it if you want a professional to come out and look at it. It will allow the problem to be taken care of much faster. For a free estimate on gutter cleaning, repairs or gutter leaf guards, call us today! Rain Gutter Issues

Post Image

Winter Rain Gutter Issues Winter is starting to get a bit messy. This means your gutters are getting a workout. With all the rain and snow coming down, it can create a real mess around your home and become a headache if your gutters for some reason stop properly working. If you clean your gutters the recommended twice a year (once in the spring and once in the fall) and it seems like every time it rains water is still overflowing and making a mess then there could be a bigger cause at hand. The first thing you should look at if you are facing this problem are the downspouts. Clogged downspouts can mean your gutters drain slower and it will back them up if there is a heavy rain. A way you can check to see if it’s your downspouts causing all of the trouble is by running water from your water hose directly into your downspout ( DO NOT USE A NOZZLE; let it run freely). If water drains slowly, its your downspouts. If you have underground downspouts that take the water away from your home. Check to see if the water flows freely all the way to the bottom of the gutters. If not, it’s a problem. The 2nd place you should look to if it seems like your downspouts are clean and properly working. Look at your gutter slope. Your gutter slope is what allows the rainwater to freely flow from your gutters to your downspouts. Gutters are stressed by heavy weights whether it be debris that has sat in your gutters for way to long or by heavy snow. It’s an easy fix for a professional who knows how to pitch gutters. It is important to look for damage done to gutters or fascia board by heavy gutters because the problem will keep happening if it went on for too long. To see if your gutter slope is off run water through your gutters with the hose and see if it pools up and slowly drain. If so then it’s your pitch. The last place your should look is at your gutters themselves. Does it seem that water is just completely overshooting your gutters? This could mean that you need over-sized gutters. Call a professional to see how much it would be to replace your residential gutters with larger commercial gutters instead. If it seems like one place is getting overrun by water. You could just need a diverter to split up the water flow. This is a common method used when roof valley’s are causing water to overflow. Get A Gutter Cleaning Before Winter Hits!

Post Image

Right now is the best time of year to get a gutter cleaning before winter hits. This can prevent other problems such as from arising in the dead of winter, when it can be harder to repair your home. There are quite a few pros to cleaning out your gutters in the late fall. Your gutters will be easier to clean in the fall.  This is true when it comes to spring gutter cleaning. If you leave all the gutter debris in your gutters over the winter it can allow the debris to decay and stick to your gutters. Which will take longer to clean out in the spring. The chance of ice dams building up will be smaller. Gutters that are full of debris will clog up your gutters when snow starts to melt creating ice dams and not allow for proper water flow. To learn more about ice dams and how to prevent them please view our previous blogs on the subject. Gutter malfunctions will be lessened. If your gutters are weighted down with debris already then when snow sets on them it will make your gutters strain even more. This can cause your gutter pitch to be changed, loosen your gutters or worse they can fall off. So protect your gutters to protect your home. Gutter longevity. This is a no brainer. The more you take care of your gutters the longer they will last. This includes cleaning them out at least twice a year (spring and fall) So make sure to schedule an appointment with a professional or take time out of your weekend to get the job done before it’s too late!   For a free estimate on gutter cleaning, repairs or adding gutter guards, call us today! Downspout Conductor Head

Post Image

Downspout Conductor Head Downspout Conductor Head. Downspouts are an important part of the gutter system equation. Downspout Conductor Head (also called leader heads, scupper boxes, or rain heads) capture the water runoff from roofs where the volume does not allow a full gutter and funnels it into downspouts that take the water to the ground.  This will collect a large amount of water. The size of the box will allow much more water to pass through than just the regular set up. Downspout Conductor Heads work similar to the way that placing your finger at the top to of a straw, creating suction. When  you remove your finger it allows the water to slowly flow freely. No more vacuum means water flows freely! No more overflows and no more gurgling sound. Which is somewhat Mediterranean — and with mountain rustic styles and log homes. If you have copper gutters this will complete the look.   For a free estimate on gutter cleaning, repairs or adding gutter guards, call us today!
