Gutter Cleaning Safety Tips to keep you safe this gutter cleaning season, if you decide to DIY this year.

Gutter Cleaning Safety Tips

  • Choose your ladder wisely. Use a ladder best fit for the job and if you have to use an extension ladder use the ladder safety tips blog we posted last year. Don’t set ladder against gutters or siding, set it softly against fascia board to prevent damages. Above all make sure to that you feel safe before climbing up the ladder.
  • Keep the ladder level and never attempt to clean your gutters on a windy or wet day.
  • Work with a partner so you can keep a 3 point stability on the ladder and it will also help to have someone hand you tools or the garden hose when you need it!
  • Use the garden hose after you have removed all of the large debris and sludge. This will wash out all the dirt and let you know if there is a clog in the downspout or a leak.
  • Make sure to wear safety goggles and rubber sole shoes to protect you for slipping or getting something nasty in your eye!

Remember if you ever have a feeling that this task is too daunting.

Race Track For Kids

Reuse Old Gutters

We actually tried this gutter reuse out for ourselves. There is an elementary school across the road from us and they were looking for some gutters to use in their annual field day. So we donated some extra gutters to use in a game they had planned. We donated the gutters and they were used for duck races! The kids loved this game (and the squirt guns). You can find many different variations of this on pinterest to meet any age need. We’ve seen them used for cars, balls and more!

Wine Or Other Bottle Rack

This is a pretty cool idea especially if you have half round gutters or older wooden gutters. Use them as a wine or bottle rack for your kitchen or where-ever you keep your bottles. It doesn’t have to be a large run of gutter, but we thought this idea was pretty cool!

If we remove your old gutters and replace them, we do offer an option to recycle them for you or you can keep them. It’s up to you as a homeowner. To see more ways to reuse old gutters please check out our previous post!
