Inspect Ladder Before Using It
When you pull out your ladder to do your bi-yearly gutter clean, inspect ladder before using it to ensure that they are no defects, dents or loose parts before climbing up on it. If your ladder has screws and bolts make sure they are all tightened, for a step ladder look to make sure extension-hinge arms are fully extended and locked in place. If the ladder looks good and safe, it’s safe to use.

When you put your ladder into place, lightly jump on the first rung to make sure the ground is secure. That will let you know if the soil is too soft or if there is a gopher hole. If it’s uneven add a 1/2″ piece of plywood to keep it level and steady. If nothing seems to help, do not climb; Wait until the ground it harder. If you are unsure about using your ladder, scared of height or uncomfortable in any other way, please hire a professional to clean your gutters.
